Super Seniors and Transportation


Objectives:
  • Continue to build communication skills (sharing from interviews and back-to-back lego build)
  • Understand that things have changed over time (people have changed, communication and transportation have changed)
  • Understand importance of invention and innovation
  • Practice creating timelines, a tool to record events over time
  • Develop lego building

Transition (10 minutes)

Introduction/Sharing (10 min)
What did you learn from seniors about transportation? (Take turns talking -- but not necessarily around the circle

Changes in Transportation (20 min)
Read Grandpa's Tractor by Michael Garland or The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton (use projector for story pictures)
Discussion questions about what has changed

Back-to-back lego build (20 min) - throughout house
Explain how to build while partners sit back-to-back

Timeline and snack (20 - 30 minutes)
Work in pairs to create individual timelines for transportation.
As a group, add to the "big" timeline - transportation, communication, photos from home

Building (30 - 40 minutes)
In three groups (Assign groups - These are not yet their teams)
Build something to represent communication or transportation in the past, present, or future
